Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity, Third Edition Book Review:
The third edition of Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity: A Planning and Management Guide is written for any business figure that wants to better prevent, plan and manage for disasters.
This book is written for not just the IT professional. It is perfect for the business leader, IT professional, IT manager, manager, and anyone that wants to better understand how a company handles IT outages.
As someone that has worked in IT and also been tasked with my own business continuity planning, I want to point out that the IT side is not nearly as complex or as time consuming as you would think. This book will help you understand the entire disaster recovery process, how to plan and plan for an IT outage
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity, Third Edition Book Review
There are four sections to this book. They are:
- Strategies to mitigate the impact of IT failure.
- Preparing for, recovering from, and recovering from the recovery of IT outages.
- Business continuity planning to improve your business continuity.
- Accountability, audits, and risk management.
I love the fact that this book is written for the production IT professional or IT professional team. You will learn how to plan for a variety of disasters as well as find out how to prepare and recover from IT failures. Anyone that manages IT and team should read this book.
A chapter, for example, on the backup process is quite normal nowadays, but a chapter on Data Encryption is more complex and usually something that is done onsite with local IT support.
The chapters on testing are genius. Anyone who has never tested their own internal systems or done a disaster recovery plan is short-changing their business.
But the meat of this book is in the planning, preparation and testing sections. The book covers the steps needed by a team of IT professionals to properly plan for, figure out how to test, and plan for an IT failure.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to read the book. Your business is only as strong and protected as you IT systems. In addition to dealing with the technical aspects of IT, you also must prepare to help your business survive a crash.
