Sports coaching is an art that goes well beyond the purely physical. You could pretty well show up, bark at the players every exercise for conditioning and “supervise” the practices while you inhale 2 boxes of muffins, and then go home and called it a day.
That’s what you would do if average was your goal. That’s not what you are here for though. Real coaching is to get inside the player’s heads, get your trainees to really believe that they can absolutely conquer the opposing team by adopting and adapting your strategies to their game style.
Players being players have their egos set as high as high goes, so aside from learning the strategies to break their rivals, you’d also need to know how to break their egos’ defences to have them accept your worldview on the game. No easy task at all, but fortunately, many have done it before and they are nice enough to share their knowledge through these books on sports coaching.
