“Strength times strength times strength equals power. What happened to you can be your power,” says Oprah in her highly acclaimed book, What Happened to You? written with co-author and brain development and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry. In this insightful and empathetic self help book, Oprah and Dr. Perry explore the ways in which you can find yourself again after living through hardship and trauma. In this book, they examine the impact of childhood experiences and how they shape you as a person. It covers both good and bad experiences, and examines how behaviours in different contexts can change the way we perceive things. Pairing Oprah’s compassionate words with Dr. Perry’s practical brain science, it becomes a meaningful self help book for anyone looking to transform after going through a difficult time. If you’re someone who asks themselves; Why do I behave the way I do? Why do I feel the way I do?’ Dr. Perry believes that it all comes down to what happened to us. If you want to learn about yourself, then the first step is to reflect on the journey you’ve been on.

We may be talking about books aimed at a grown-up audience, but teaching self-awareness and emotional intellignce to kids is equally important. One of my friends brought this book home as a birthday gift for my daughter, and it’s been an amazing read, not only for my daughter, but also for me. In retrospect, I wish I had this book in my catalogue as a kid. I probably would have been more confident in my abilities earlier on. Even then, I’m happy that my daughter gets to live all of it, while learning from such an amazing book.

Tara Westover’s amazing memoir Educated details her life growing up with survivalist Mormon parents. Her upbringing was not happy. Her violent brother and fanatical father are unaffected by her family’s complete social isolation. Westover is constantly exposed to trauma and horrific accidents because her father distrusts hospitals and the state. Tara Westover decides to start learning, but she doesn’t enter a school until 17. Despite this, she attends BYU, Cambridge, and then Harvard. Westover is constantly torn between education and family, and she is learning to accept her family as it is. It’s heartbreaking to read about her struggle to live a fulfilling life while knowing her family would not approve. Overall, Educated lives up to the hype and reviews. Given Westover’s life story, these events that occurred so recently in the 21st century are incredible.

With this book, Daniel Goleman will help you get to know yourself and those around you in a more objective and sincere way. This wonderful book redefined what it meant to be smart, and I guess that says a lot. I think that’s the best way to describe this incredibly amazing book. The book is well-written, intelligent, and compelling. Many people believe that emotional intelligence is about managing other people’s emotions. However, there’s something more important: Identifying and managing your own emotions. By reading this book, you’ll learn how to do so.

Developing strong friendships makes you a happier person, yet this process starts with *you *learning more about yourself. The book encourages you to be more honest about your feelings of competitiveness, envy, and jealousy. It shows you how to address issues involving deception or money and why it’s important to investigate more hidden behaviors, such as your unconscious biases. Once you understand these things about yourself, you’ll more easily attract like-minded people who deepen your happiness because feeling connected, feeling that you belong, is a key to happiness for most of us.
